Mill Market in the Hawley Silk Mill—a central source for local food and goods made within a 200-mile radius of the Lake Wallenpaupack Region—shared a sneak peek of its products and space with friends and media on June 22nd.Mill Market will celebrate its Grand Opening on Saturday, June 30 with a day of special tastings, meet-the-farmer opportunities, music and family fun. The event runs from 8 am to 6 pm.The Market will make it easy for people to learn about and to purchase a diverse selection of local foods, and will provide our region's hardworking and talented farmers and purveyors with a high-trafficked, convenient single marketplace through which to sell their products. "Mill Market moves local products from source to consumer in support of a sustainable local economy," says Proprietor Justin Genzlinger. "The business model is counter to that of big box stores; it keeps locally spent dollars 'local'."Mill Market's knowledgeable staff, led by Manger John Huddleston, will happily talk with customers about the economic, environmental and health benefits of local food. The Market will also host an ongoing series of events including tastings, demos, workshops and lectures.Huddleston, a Monroe County native, brings an extensive background in the natural foods industry to Mill Market. Most recently, he served as General Manager of the Texas-based Natural Grocers, and has worked in Specialty Foods and Management positions at Central Market in Dallas, TX; The Fresh Market, Jacksonville, Fl; and Mount Snow USA, West Dover, VT. Huddleston graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management from East Stroudsburg University."I'm delighted to be back home, working on such an exciting project that supports the people and the economy of northeastern Pennsylvania and the Upper Delaware region," says Huddleston.Mill Market is advised by a Board of Directors offering expertise in a variety of fields relevant to sustainability, hospitality, food and economic development.
